The South Kingstown Recreation Commission is extremely pleased to announce that the Town’s Annual Fourth of July Celebration at Old Mountain Field, in Wakefield, will take place this year, when celebrating freedom and independence takes on a whole new meaning. The festivities will start at 5:30pm and feature a live concert by Take it to the Bridge, followed by a spectacular fireworks display at approximately 9pm.
Considering the "iffy" weather forecast this weekend, here are some answers to questions you may have:
- WHAT HAPPENS IF THERE IS BAD WEATHER ON THE 4TH?
The Parks and Recreation Department closely monitors the weather forecast and makes a determination as to whether to cancel the event by 10am on July 4th. Notice will be posted on the Town website and social media accounts. - WHY IS A DECISION TO CANCEL MADE IN THE MORNING? WHY NOT WAIT UNTIL THE AFTERNOON?
It takes hours of preparation to stage a large pyrotechnics display. Once the pyrotechnics team begins prepping the fireworks, they cannot disassemble them; and they must shoot them off due to strict state and federal safety regulations. - IS THERE A RAIN DATE?
Yes! The event will be held on July 5th. Same time, same program!
