[ARCHIVED] South Kingstown EMS – Alzheimer’s Training for Responders

Dementia-vs-Alzheimers-Difference

More than 5 million people in American have Alzheimer’s disease.  Beginning this month, South Kingstown EMS personnel will begin a course called “Approaching Alzheimer’s: First Responder Training.  The training is designed to better prepare EMS when responding to people with Alzheimer’s disease. The course will prepare EMS to help identify the disease and provide knowledge to assist with common calls in which a person may have dementia.

 

Topics will include: Dementia overview, Wondering, Driving, Shoplifting, Disaster Response, Abuse and Neglect

 

The Alzheimer’s Association 24/7 Helpline (800-272-3900) is available around the clock, 365 days a year. Through this free service, specialists and master’s-level clinicians offer confidential support and information to people living with dementia, caregivers, families and the public.
