Posted on: November 6, 2018[ARCHIVED] SOUTH KINGSTOWN VETERANS DAY PARADE
The parade route will start on Holly Street, turn onto Main Street, with the final quarter mile on High Street, finishing at the Saugatucket Park Veterans Monument. The parade will feature Veterans Organizations including the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion, and the Vietnam Veterans of America, as well as the South Kingstown and Chariho High School bands, numerous military marching groups, community organizations, and several public safety agencies. Wakefield resident and founder of the VFW 916 Auxiliary, Venerra Haslam, will serve as the parade’s Grand Marshall. Following the parade, a ceremony honoring all veterans will be conducted at Saugatucket Park beginning at approximately 2:00pm. James Haldeman, Lt. Colonel USMC Retired, will serve as the Master of Ceremonies. Reverend Wallace Hazard of the Community Church of God, will offer the ceremony’s invocation and benediction.
Any veteran or family member who would like to participate in the parade and cannot march or walk should meet behind Old Mountain Lanes, 765 Kingstown Road, Wakefield, at noon. Coffee and donuts will be served. The South County Trolley will pick up at 12:45 for the parade. Refreshments will be served at the Elks following the parade, and then passengers will be returned to the bowling alley or their automobile. In the event of inclement weather, the parade will be cancelled and the ceremony will be conducted at the South Kingstown High School at 2:00 pm Please log onto www.southkingstownri.com or contact the Neighborhood Guild after 10:00 am at 789-9301 for all scheduling updates on the day of the parade.
