The Town Manager is pleased to announce that the Town of South Kingstown has been selected by the State of Rhode Island Office of Housing and Community Development to receive a grant from the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program in the amount of $380,000 for a new laundry facility at the SK Housing Authority’s Champagne Heights location.
Based on an application by the South Kingstown Town Council this past spring, this CDBG funding allocation will allow for construction of a new, free‐standing laundry facility, replacing in‐unit washers and dryers, which were removed for health reasons. This centrally located laundry facility will provide access to all occupants in a building that can be professionally monitored and maintained.
"This is something that the residents of Champagne Heights have long needed," said Mary Asselin, executive director of the South Kingstown Housing Authority. Town Manager Robert Zarnetske adds, "We are thrilled and appreciative of the OHCD’s response through the CDBG program to meeting this community need and we hope to be able to begin construction in early spring 2019."
