Public Hearing Notice

The Town is considering filing an application with the State of Rhode Island Department of Housing, Office of Housing & Community Development for a Rhode Island Community Development Block Grant (CDBG). Statewide, several million dollars in funding is available to support a range of eligible activities, including:

  • Improved housing opportunities for low and moderate income families and individuals.
  • Provision of employment opportunities for low and moderate income persons. 
  • Construction and improvement of public facilities benefiting low and moderate income families and individuals. 
  • Provision of community services principally benefiting low and moderate income families and individuals. 

A public hearing will be held in the Council Chambers at Town Hall, 180 High Street, Wakefield on Monday, July 10, 2023 at 7:30 PM for the purpose of obtaining the views of citizens on community development and housing needs and on program performance. In addition, interested persons may submit their views in writing to Brian Wagner, Senior Planner, Planning Department, 180 High Street, Wakefield, RI 02879.

The following information shall be provided at the public hearing: 

  1. The projected amount of funds expected to be available for proposed community development and housing activities, including the grant and anticipated program income. 
  2. The range of activities that may be undertaken. 
  3. Description of the past use of funds and the relationship of activities to local community development objectives. 
  4. The estimated amount proposed to be used for activities that will benefit persons of low and moderate income (at least 70% of total) 
  5. Plans for minimizing displacement of persons as a result of activities assisted with Community Development funds and to assist persons actually displaced as a result of such activities.
