What is CDBG?

CDBG is a federally-funded program of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).
South Kingstown receives CDBG funding through the Rhode Island Small Cities Program, which is overseen by the Rhode Island Office of Housing and Community Development (OHCD). South Kingstown is one of 33 communities in the state which receives funding through the Small Cities Program. 

What does CDBG Funding Support?

CDBG funds support the development of strong communities, by providing safe and decent housing stock, and increased economic opportunities for low- and moderate-income (LMI) persons. To be eligible for funding activities must meet one of the three National Objectives for CDBG:

                   1.  Benefit to LMI persons;
                   2.  Aid in the prevention or elimination of slums and blight; and/or
                   3.  Projects which meet an urgent need

How is CDBG Used in South Kingstown?

South Kingstown has participated in the Small Cities CDBG Program since 1985. Currently, the Town administers two separate CDBG programs, the Housing Rehabilitation Set Aside Fund and the Annual Competitive Application. In the past, the Town has also received funding through the CDBG - Disaster Recovery program, however that program only operates following significant natural disasters, such as Hurricane Sandy.
