Proctoring Exams Policy

The South Kingstown Public Library offers exam proctoring as a service to its patrons.

General Guidelines

  1. Students must verify that the testing institution accepts all Library proctoring policies and coordinates any information exchanged between the instructor and the Library.
  2. Students must schedule an appointment with the Reference Librarian at least one week in advance of the desired testing date, keeping in mind that exams must be completed 30 minutes prior to closing. Proctoring is available only during the Library's regular hours.
  3. It is the student's responsibility to verify that exam materials have been received by Library. Students must confirm in advance of testing that the Library has received all materials necessary for testing, including proctor verification materials. Failure to do so may result in cancellation of the proctoring reservation.
  4. The Library will make every effort to set the test-taker apart from high traffic areas of the Library, although the availability of a quiet work space cannot be guaranteed.
  5. Photo ID must be provided on the day of testing.
  6. The student will supply all materials necessary for testing, including laptop computer (if needed), pens, pencils, calculators, etc. Library computers are not available for proctored exams.
  7. The Librarian will not clarify procedural questions or instructions on behalf of the school / instructor, or grade exams. Nor can the Library provide a staff member to continuously monitor the exam.
  8. The Library will serve as delivery and return point for mailed, emailed or faxed exams, and will, if the student wishes, return the completed exam via any pre-paid method. The student will provide postage and mailing supplies to return the examination and will pay for any expenses, including printing, copies, fax charges, etc., at our normal copy rate of 15 cents per page.
  9. The Library cannot accept responsibility for the completed exam once it has been mailed back to the educational institution.
  10. The Library will hold copies of paper exams which have yet to be administered for 30 days. After 30 days the exam will not be retained by the library unless prior arrangements have been made.
  11. The Library will not retain information in regard to the student, the instructor or the exam itself once testing is completed.
