Residents of South Kingstown have the option of contracting with a private trash hauler or taking their garbage to the Rose Hill Recycling-Transfer Station.
Household Refuse
If you would like to have your garbage picked up curbside, check the yellow pages under "Garbage Removal". Call a few haulers since prices can vary significantly; or, ask a neighbor for a recommendation.
Recycling
Residents utilizing private haulers for refuse collection service are able to dispose of their recyclables curbside. As environmental and landfill capacity concerns continue to mount, recycling becomes increasingly important for all communities. As such, the Town of South Kingstown embarked on a licensing program with residential haulers to ensure that all residents are practicing curbside recycling.
The program requires that all haulers must be licensed by the Town and a condition of that license is that haulers will be required to collect curbside residential recyclables. Haulers who do not meet this condition will not be allowed to collect waste in Town.
To facilitate the curbside recycling process, private haulers will be providing each of their residential customers two rolling recycling toters along with a detailed color pamphlet with thorough explanations of what items are recyclable and how to prepare them for recycling.
Each private hauler must collect residential recyclables on a regular schedule for their customers. Residents should contact their private refuse haulers for detailed schedule information particularly if they have questions regarding what day of the week the recyclables are collected and which recyclables should be set out for collection.
Residents who are seeking a licensed hauler can click here to go to a page with a list available for download, or call the Public Services Department at 789-9331, ext. 2250 to determine if a hauler is licensed to collect waste in South Kingstown. Still available to residents is access to the Rose Hill Transfer station for those who prefer to transport their own waste and recyclables rather than hire a curbside hauler.
The Town of South Kingstown looks forward to successfully achieving high recycling standards through joint efforts of Town staff, private haulers, and all residents. Toward that end, the Town has hired, through grant funding, a recycling coordinator who will work with both haulers and residents to address any concerns or questions. The availability of curbside recycling will make it easier for all residents to participate in this community-wide environmental effort.
Call the South Kingstown Solid Waste Division at 789-9331 extension 2250 if you have any questions.
