Back-Up/Per Diem Van Driver

The town-operated Senior Center has an immediate need for an individual to provide back-up driver duties on a per diem basis. This position, which is generally limited to an average of 25-30 days per year, provides coverage in the absence of the regular full time Driver/Dispatcher.

This position is responsible for driving a lift-equipped, 18-passenger mid-sized bus to transport older adults to the Senior Center, shopping and a variety of errands within the Town limits. To be considered, candidates must possess a valid Rhode Island Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with a “P” endorsement. This position is subject to random Controlled Substance and Alcohol Testing. The position pays $18.00 per hour.

The Town of South Kingstown, Rhode Island has a Principal Planner position available within the Town’s Planning Department. Under the direction of the Planning Director, role of Principal Planner is a professional planning and technical position, and is responsible for providing administrative support, technical review, information, and recommendations, instrumental in the development and implementation of the Town’s planning policies and actions, including but not limited to regarding various land development projects proposed for construction in the Town. The position also provides a staff supervisory role in the development of the Town’s Comprehensive Community Plan and related long range planning projects, including plans and programs for community sustainability.

To be considered, applicants must possess considerable knowledge of land use planning principles and practice; federal, state, and local land use planning and environmental law; and the ability to apply technical knowledge and exercise independent judgment in carrying out responsibilities according to general policy directives and specific legal requirements. Applicants must also possess excellent interpersonal skills, verbal and written communication skills, as well as proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and GIS applications related to land use planning.

Required qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree in community planning, urban affairs, natural resources science, or a related field; and a minimum of seven (7) years of experience; or a Master’s Degree in Community Planning (MCP) and three (3) years of experience (Master’s Degree preferred). Certification by the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) is also preferred. The salary for this 35-hour/week exempt SKMEA position is $70,843-$78,154 and includes a full benefit package. The South Kingstown Partnership for Prevention has an opportunity for someone to join the team in the role of part-time Outreach Coordinator under the Drug Free Communities Grant. This individual is responsible for planning, coordinating and implementing various substance abuse prevention initiatives in the schools and community. You will conduct outreach efforts to engage all stakeholders, provide substance abuse prevention training and education, recruit members for the SKPP Coalition, develop and strengthen policies, assist with strategic planning and attend regular monthly coalition and commission meetings. Some light administrative duties are required as well.

To qualify, you must have strong organizational skills; be self-motivated; work well with teens, parents, administrators and community members; have a working knowledge of Word, Excel, and Power Point; some knowledge/background in youth services and a Bachelor’s degree in Human Services or similar concentration is desired.

The position, which pays $18 per hour, works approximately 20 hours per week which may include nights and weekends. Some travel will also be required.

The Town of South Kingstown, a diverse coastal community of 30,000 citizens, is seeking a dynamic and experienced library professional for the role of Library Director. The position is responsible for the management of the Town’s public library system, and duties include development of the annual operating budget, capital budgeting and projects, collection and program development, personnel, grant writing, community relations, planning and development of short and long-range library goals, and oversight of library building and grounds maintenance.

The South Kingstown Public Library system consists of the central Peace Dale Library and two branch libraries, Kingston Free Library and Robert Beverly Hale Library, all located in beautiful historic buildings. The Libraries have a combined collection of 130,000, and this year’s programming efforts include 482 annual programs with over 10,000 attendees. The Library Director leads a team of ten (10) full-time and twenty-five (25) part-time employees in delivering customer-focused services and programs to residents and library patrons. This position, which reports to the Town Manager and a seven (7) member Library Board of Trustees, will oversee a budget of over $1,200,000 for FY 2016-2017.

To be considered, applicants must have considerable knowledge of the principles and practices of modern library systems and programs, must have experience with traditional and emerging library services, as well as be knowledgeable about current and future trends in the application of new technologies to those services. Applicants must possess a proven track record of administrative, financial, supervisory, and management skills, as well as a genuine interest in working with the public. Required qualifications include a Master’s Degree in Library Science (MLS) or Library and Information Science (MLIS) from an ALA-accredited program and a minimum of five years of progressively responsible direct public library administration experience with three or more years in a supervisory capacity. The salary for this non-union position is $70,843 - $78,154 and includes a comprehensive benefit package.
