The Town has an exceptional opportunity for a highly experienced professional to join its senior management team as the community’s Chief Financial Officer.
In this role, you will provide strategic direction and leadership in financial operations and control including overseeing collection, custody, and disbursement of public funds, payroll and taxes; maintaining municipal accounting records; management of and providing advice on investments; overseeing the issuance of all bonded debt; debt administration; preparation of financial reports covering all municipal activities and funds; purchasing and oversight of the central computerized financial management information systems of the Town; as well as chief financial adviser to the Town Manager and Town Council.
The ideal candidate will have a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited College or University in accounting and/or finance, or a closely related field, and a minimum of seven (7) years of progressively responsible municipal finance work or equivalent combination of education and experience. Masters Degree preferred. Experience with Financial Management System software is desirable. The candidate should also have considerable knowledge of governmental accounting and reporting systems, GAAFR, GAAP and GASB.

The Town has recently purchased, and will be installing, a new Governmental Financial Management System over the next eighteen months. In this newly created role of Information Technology Director, the Town is seeking an experienced professional to provide leadership and guidance in the implementation of this software and to manage the planning, directing and execution of all day to day technology related systems and services including hardware, software and telecommunications to meet the needs of the Town.
This position will develop internal organizational technology strategies for the Town; consult with users; establish new technology objectives inline with organizational objectives on an ongoing basis; institute overall technology standards and practices Town wide; oversee technical design, development, purchase and implementation of large projects and/or major software products and systems; establish and maintain Town wide infrastructure to support and guide individual departments with their information technology efforts; and acts in the capacity of internal consultant to all users and stakeholders.

The South Kingstown Public Library has an opportunity for a part-time
Reference Librarian. The work schedule for this 30 hour/week position is generally Monday through Friday with varied, regular hours and alternate Saturdays 9 – 5 pm.
This professional position is responsible for providing reference and readers advisory service to adults, children and young adults by locating and recommending information and materials; making referrals to other libraries or other community, municipal or state resources; assisting patrons in using the library’s research tools, and assisting at the Circulation Desk if needed. This librarian also plans adult programs for the Kingston Free Library and leads book discussion groups within the library and in the community.
Successful candidates must have a minimum of a Master’s Degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited program. Two or more years of public library reference experience is preferred. Candidates must be comfortable with a variety of digital devices as well as computers, online searching and web resources. The position pays $22.11 per hour. The Town is seeking applicants for the position of Assistant Harbormaster for the 2013 summer season. The Assistant Harbormaster is responsible for the enforcement of state and local laws pertaining to vessels within the waters of the Town. To be eligible you must be at least 18 years of age, possess a valid drivers license, be available to work various hours Thursday through Sunday from May through Labor Day weekend, and attend mandatory training at the South Kingstown Police Department. Prior boat handling and/or law enforcement experience is beneficial, but not required. The position pays $10 per hour.

The Town has an opportunity for an individual to work 35 hours per week for approximately 8-10 weeks during the summer of 2013. This position will assist the Engineering Division and GIS staff in field mapping stormwater, catch basins and manholes throughout the community utilizing an iPad tablet. You will be required to perform this field work on foot after driving to the mapping sites. You must be available to work the beginning of June through August.
Candidates must be a minimum of 18 years of age, have completed 2 years of college, have a working knowledge of the Apple iPad mobile device, have a valid operator license and good driving record, ability to pay close attention to detail, ability to work independently and in the outdoors in a variety of weather conditions, and the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Course work in Geography, Geology, Natural Resources, Engineering or a related field. Knowledge of ArcGIS desktop and ArcGIS server, and familiarity working with Apple iOS 6, XML and Esri Runtime for iOS is desirable but not mandatory. Training will be provided. The position pays $15 per hour.

The Town is currently accepting applications for part time work at the Town’s Animal Shelter. This position, which pays $14.29 per hour, is responsible for disinfecting cages and kennels, attending to the public, and completing paperwork. Animal handling experience and knowledge of disease is a plus.
This position will work approximately 6-10 hours per week. To be considered you must be flexible and able to work evenings, weekends, holidays, off-premises at PetSmart in Warwick and on an as needed basis for fill-in purposes. A valid driver’s license for travel is required.
