Back-Up/Per Diem Van Driver

The town-operated Senior Center has an immediate need for an individual to provide back-up driver duties on a per diem basis. This position, which is generally limited to an average of 25-30 days per year, provides coverage in the absence of the regular full time Driver/Dispatcher.

This position is responsible for driving a lift-equipped, 18-passenger mid-sized bus to transport older adults to the Senior Center, shopping and a variety of errands within the Town limits. To be considered, candidates must possess a valid Rhode Island Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with a “P” endorsement. This position is subject to random Controlled Substance and Alcohol Testing. The position pays $18.00 per hour.

Senior Services Director

Senior Services Director

The Town of South Kingstown Rhode Island, a seaside community of approximately 30,000 citizens, has an exciting opportunity for a dynamic, seasoned, senior services professional to join its Leisure Services team. This position is responsible for the overall management and oversight of the Town’s Senior Services program which includes a state of the art Senior Center and Adult Day Services Facility.

South Kingstown Senior Services provides a comprehensive program, for Town residents over the age of 60, which includes transportation services, senior center wellness and enrichment programs, a congregate nutrition program, adult day services, and general advocacy efforts. The Director is responsible for providing oversight and management of these comprehensive services; as well as for the maintenance and improvements to the senior facilities.

This highly visible position is tasked with the administration and supervision of the day to day operations of all programs within the Adult Day Care and Senior Center. These include staffing of employees and volunteers, development of policies/procedures, program scheduling, budgeting, preparation of management reports, promotion of programs, the securing of contracts and grants, negotiating and administering human service contracts, and interfacing with the RI Department of Elderly Affairs, the Senior Youth Association and other organizations as needed.

To be considered, applicants must possess a proven track record of administrative, financial, supervisory and general management skills in human services delivery as well as a genuine interest in working with the elderly population. Candidates must also have considerable knowledge of human service program and delivery systems, state and federal human services grant programs, laws governing human services programs, aging issues, activities programming and referral systems, and the ability to develop and maintain collaborative working relationships with staff, consultants, government agencies, and participants and their families.

Preferred qualifications include a Bachelor’s Degree in Human Services or Gerontology and a minimum of five (5) years of experience in a responsible human services delivery position in a supervisory capacity. The salary for this non-union, 40-hour/week management position is $60,592 and includes a comprehensive benefit package. Animal Shelter Attendant

$15.20 per hour - Temporary and Per Diem

AND PER DIEM

The Town is accepting applications for part time and per diem work at the new state of the art Animal Shelter. The position, which pays $15.20 per hour, is responsible for disinfecting cages, kennels, animal equipment and the facility.

Qualified candidates will have a calm demeanor, be organized, dependable, pay attention to detail and have the ability to be observant of changes in animal behavior. Previous animal handling experience and knowledge of animal diseases is a plus.

The part time position will work approximately 6-10 hours per week for 2-3 months and the per diem on an as needed basis. To be considered, you must be flexible and able to work weekends, holidays, and on an as needed basis for fill-in purposes.

Principal Planner

The Town of South Kingstown, Rhode Island has a Principal Planner position available within the Town’s Planning Department. Under the direction of the Planning Director, role of Principal Planner is a professional planning and technical position, and is responsible for providing administrative support, technical review, information, and recommendations, instrumental in the development and implementation of the Town’s planning policies and actions, including but not limited to regarding various land development projects proposed for construction in the Town. The position also provides a staff supervisory role in the development of the Town’s Comprehensive Community Plan and related long range planning projects, including plans and programs for community sustainability.

To be considered, applicants must possess considerable knowledge of land use planning principles and practice; federal, state, and local land use planning and environmental law; and the ability to apply technical knowledge and exercise independent judgment in carrying out responsibilities according to general policy directives and specific legal requirements. Applicants must also possess excellent interpersonal skills, verbal and written communication skills, as well as proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and GIS applications related to land use planning.

Required qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree in community planning, urban affairs, natural resources science, or a related field; and a minimum of seven (7) years of experience; or a Master’s Degree in Community Planning (MCP) and three (3) years of experience (Master’s Degree preferred). Certification by the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) is also preferred. The salary for this 35-hour/week exempt SKMEA position is $70,843-$78,154 and includes a full benefit package.
