Senior Center
Back-Up/Per Diem Van Driver

The town-operated Senior Center has an immediate need for an individual to provide back-up driver duties on a per diem basis. This position, which is generally limited to an average of 25-30 days per year, provides coverage in the absence of the regular full time Driver/Dispatcher.

This position is responsible for driving a lift-equipped, 18-passenger mid-sized bus to transport older adults to the Senior Center, shopping and a variety of errands within the Town limits. To be considered, candidates must possess a valid Rhode Island Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with a “P” endorsement. This position is subject to random Controlled Substance and Alcohol Testing. The position pays $18.00 per hour.

Library Director

The Town of South Kingstown, a diverse coastal community of 30,000 citizens, is seeking a dynamic and experienced library professional for the role of Library Director. The position is responsible for the management of the Town’s public library system, and duties include development of the annual operating budget, capital budgeting and projects, collection and program development, personnel, grant writing, community relations, planning and development of short and long-range library goals, and oversight of library building and grounds maintenance.

The South Kingstown Public Library system consists of the central Peace Dale Library and two branch libraries, Kingston Free Library and Robert Beverly Hale Library, all located in beautiful historic buildings. The Libraries have a combined collection of 130,000, and this year’s programming efforts include 482 annual programs with over 10,000 attendees. The Library Director leads a team of ten (10) full-time and twenty-five (25) part-time employees in delivering customer-focused services and programs to residents and library patrons. This position, which reports to the Town Manager and a seven (7) member Library Board of Trustees, will oversee a budget of over $1,200,000 for FY 2016-2017.

To be considered, applicants must have considerable knowledge of the principles and practices of modern library systems and programs, must have experience with traditional and emerging library services, as well as be knowledgeable about current and future trends in the application of new technologies to those services. Applicants must possess a proven track record of administrative, financial, supervisory, and management skills, as well as a genuine interest in working with the public. Required qualifications include a Master’s Degree in Library Science (MLS) or Library and Information Science (MLIS) from an ALA-accredited program and a minimum of five years of progressively responsible direct public library administration experience with three or more years in a supervisory capacity. The salary for this non-union position is $70,843 - $78,154 and includes a comprehensive benefit package.

Recreation Aides

$9.60 - Per Diem


The South Kingstown Parks and Recreation Department is seeking high energy and enthusiastic individuals who are 15 years of age or older to work various days September through May for School’s Out Days (vacation weeks, and other scheduled closure days) as well as special events such as Children’s Fall Festival, Pumpkin Launch, Book Swap, Basketball Tournament, holiday events any other event or program requested.

Qualified applicants will assist the Recreation Supervisor and other staff with school age children (ages 5 – 13) in executing games, crafts, and providing proper supervision both on field trips and during camp. Must be able to work a minimum of 4 hours each shift (program or camp), use considerable independent judgment under minimum supervision and be able to work with the general public during special events.

Individuals must be dependable and have the ability to work at different venues around Town. Those under the age of 16 years will be responsible for providing their working papers to the Town if hired. Hours vary and are based on each program. The rate of pay is $9.60 per hour and current CPR and First Aid certifications are desirable but not required.

Basketball Assistant

$13-$15 per hour - September to March

Basketball Assistant

The Town of South Kingstown Parks and Recreation Department is accepting applications for the part-time position of Basketball Assistant. The qualified individual must be 18-years of age and be available to work 20-25 hours (on average) per week afternoons and evenings from September to March. The job schedule requires select weekend hours in October and November, and standard hours every weekend December through March.

Qualified candidates will have a minimum of 3 years of experience working in the field of athletics, a solid knowledge of the game of basketball including a background in coaching basketball (preferably coaching at the Kindergarten through second grade level), a working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Publisher, be detailed oriented and well organized.

Duties of this position primarily consist of assisting with the planning and execution of the Department’s youth basketball program for children ages 5 to 18 years old. Tasks include creating documents, recruiting coaches and other basketball officials, interacting with parents, and overseeing gym site supervision. The job duties may also include tasks related to other sports and fitness programs as needed. The position pays $13-$15 per hour based on experience.
