The town-operated Senior Center has an immediate need for an individual to provide back-up driver duties on a per diem basis. This position, which is generally limited to an average of 25-30 days per year, provides coverage in the absence of the regular full time Driver/Dispatcher.

This position is responsible for driving a lift-equipped, 18-passenger mid-sized bus to transport older adults to the Senior Center, shopping and a variety of errands within the Town limits. To be considered, candidates must possess a valid Rhode Island Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with a “P” endorsement. This position is subject to random Controlled Substance and Alcohol Testing. The position pays $18.00 per hour.

Water Operator I

An immediate opportunity exists in the Water Division of the Public Services Department. In this position you would be responsible for assisting in the operation, maintenance and construction of the Town’s water distribution and supply system. You will read and repair meters, install water services, meters, mains, valves and hydrants, check wells and pumps at pump station and keep records of work performed.

To qualify you must have the appropriate certificates from the Board of Certification of Water Operators or the ability to obtain them within twelve months of employment. The successful candidate will have 1-2 years of experience in construction or public works. Desirable skills include: mechanical aptitude with some knowledge of basic plumbing, experience with potable water utilities, the ability to operate a backhoe and other construction equipment, as well as the ability to use various hand tools and power driven equipment. In this visible position you must be able to deal effectively with the public in a courteous, helpful manner. This position is on call nights, weekends and holidays and must be able to respond to call outs in a timely manner.

The starting salary for this 40-hour/week SKMEA position is $42,800 or $20.58 per hour and includes a full benefit package. The Town of South Kingstown Department of Senior Services has an opening for a 15 hour per week Dishwasher at the Senior Center. This position is responsible for dishwashing, maintaining a sanitary kitchen environment and assisting in the preparation and distribution of noontime meals. The employee will follow food service standards and protocols in accordance with the RI Department of Health. This nonunion position works Monday – Friday from 11:30 am -2:30 pm and pays $10.20 per hour. Some food service experience is desirable.

We are also seeking Per Diem Dishwasher/Kitchen Aides to assist at the Senior Center on an as needed basis. The position pays $10.20 per hour. Some food service experience is desirable.

Senior Services Director

The Town of South Kingstown Rhode Island, a seaside community of approximately 30,000 citizens, has an exciting opportunity for a dynamic, seasoned, senior services professional to join its Leisure Services team. This position is responsible for the overall management and oversight of the Town’s Senior Services program which includes a state of the art Senior Center and Adult Day Services Facility.

South Kingstown Senior Services provides a comprehensive program, for Town residents over the age of 60, which includes transportation services, senior center wellness and enrichment programs, a congregate nutrition program, adult day services, and general advocacy efforts. The Director is responsible for providing oversight and management of these comprehensive services; as well as for the maintenance and improvements to the senior facilities.

This highly visible position is tasked with the administration and supervision of the day to day operations of all programs within the Adult Day Care and Senior Center. These include staffing of employees and volunteers, development of policies/procedures, program scheduling, budgeting, preparation of management reports, promotion of programs, the securing of contracts and grants, negotiating and administering human service contracts, and interfacing with the RI Department of Elderly Affairs, the Senior Youth Association and other organizations as needed.

To be considered, applicants must possess a proven track record of administrative, financial, supervisory and general management skills in human services delivery as well as a genuine interest in working with the elderly population. Candidates must also have considerable knowledge of human service program and delivery systems, state and federal human services grant programs, laws governing human services programs, aging issues, activities programming and referral systems, and the ability to develop and maintain collaborative working relationships with staff, consultants, government agencies, and participants and their families.

Preferred qualifications include a Bachelor’s Degree in Human Services or Gerontology and a minimum of five (5) years of experience in a responsible human services delivery position in a supervisory capacity. The salary for this non-union, 40-hour/week management position is $60,592 and includes a comprehensive benefit package. Kitchen Aide

This regular, part-time 10 hour per week position is responsible for light meal preparation of pre-cooked meals delivered to the site in bulk, meal portioning and clean up for Adult Day Care Center clients. Other duties include maintaining a clean and sanitary kitchen area, heating and serving food, washing/sanitizing dishes in commercial dishwasher and general kitchen clean up. The employee will follow food service standards and protocols in accordance with the RI Dept. of Health under the direction of the Food Service Safety Manager. The hours for this position are Monday through Friday 11:30 am-1:30 pm and the pay is $10.20 per hour.

Equipment Operator I

The Highway Department has an immediate need for an Equipment Operator I skilled in the operation of heavy and light equipment including dump trucks, plows and various other apparatus used in the construction and maintenance of streets and highways. You must also have knowledge of automotive equipment used in the maintenance of public works facilities and grounds, the skill and ability to service equipment and make minor repairs and adjustments in the field, and the capability to perform assorted tasks requiring manual labor for extended periods of time under sometimes unfavorable weather conditions when necessary.

This position requires a high school diploma or equivalent, a valid RI CDL B license with all applicable type ratings, certifications, and endorsements, a valid Department of Labor Hoisting Engineer’s License to operate heavy equipment and all necessary licenses, certificates, ratings and endorsements, or the ability to obtain them within three (3) months of hire per the job description. A minimum of two years of construction experience is preferred.

The starting salary for this 40-hour/week Council 94 position is $39,525 or $19.00 per hour and includes a full benefit package.
