Finance and Taxation
Information Technology
It is the responsibility of the Information Technology Department to provide uniformity and control in the analysis, design, development, project management, documentation, programming and operations of data processing systems and services.
Purchasing
The Office of Purchasing was established to administer the Town's Purchasing policies.
Risk Management
The Office of Risk Management was established to administer the Town's Risk Management programs.
Tax Assessment
The mission of the Department of Assessment is to provide for the orderly valuation of all real estate, motor vehicles and tangible personal property located in the Town of South Kingstown.
Tax Collector
The Tax Collector’s Office is responsible for the collection of all real estate, personal property and motor vehicle excise taxes, town sewer, South Shore and Middlebridge water user fees, adult day care and septic hauler invoices.
Finance
The Finance Department serves all departments of the Town as an information gathering and control center.
General Administration
Town Solicitor
The Office of the Town Solicitor provides legal assistance and advice to the Town Council, Town Manager, Town staff, and Town boards, exccluding the School Department.
Town Clerk
The Office of the Town Clerk is responsible for providing the maintenance, indexing, and storage of all the town records. This includes providing easy access for the public.
Town Manager
The Office of the Town Manager provides general administrative management and oversight of municipal operations.
Personnel
It is the responsibility of the Personnel Department to assist the Town Manager’s office and other town departments in the proper administration of personnel policies, ensure adherence to local and federal employment laws and mandates, identify potential on the job injury/worker’s compensation risks to the Town and provide reporting protocol when necessary, promote town-wide employee relation activities, provide town-wide training and education, and respond to general staffing needs.
Leisure Services
Senior Services
The Department of Senior Services currently operates four direct service programs: the Senior Transportation Program, the Adult Day Services Program, the Senior Nutrition Program and the Senior Services Center. Advocacy and technical assistance are also major functional areas within this department.
Recreation
Serving the needs of the community through quality parks and facilities and by offering life long learning through recreational and cultural programs.
Library Services
The South Kingstown Public Library provides materials and services to help users of all ages meet their needs: job-related, cultural, intellectual, informational, or personal.
Planning and Zoning
Planning Department
Under the direction of the Town Manager, the Planning Department provides professional planning services for the Town.
Building Inspection and Zoning
The Zoning and Building Inspection Office is charged with enforcement of the Zoning Ordinance, the Rhode Island State Building Code, the Minimum Housing Code and the Tourist Accommodation Ordinance. Assistance is also rendered to other Town departments within the Office's field of expertise.
Public Safety
Police
The Mission Philosophy of the South Kingstown Police Department is a component of the Department Rules and Regulations, which were adopted and approved in accordance with the Town Charter by the Town Council in August 1987.
Emergency Medical Services
The purpose of the Division is to provide pre-hospital emergency medical treatment and transportation of the critically sick or injured.
Animal Shelter
Founded in 1980, the South Kingstown Animal Shelter accepts neglected, abandoned and/or stray dogs and cats.
Animal Control
To enforce the Town's leash law, respond to complaints concerning stray animals, enforce State Laws concerning animals and provide humane education for animal owners.
Public Services
Public Services
The Department of Public Services is responsible for the administration, planning and design of all public works and utility enterprise fund programs and projects. It is comprised of the following divisions: Engineering, Streets and Highway, Wastewater, Water, Solid Waste and Onsite Wastewater Management.
Communications Department
The Communications Department is charged with enforcement of the Rhode Island Fire Prevention Code, as it pertains to the installation and maintenance of commercial fire alarm systems for all new and existing buildings in South Kingstown.
