VIN Checks
Vehicle Identification Checks are required for all vehicles that are 10 years or newer and have been previously registered in another state.
To process a VIN check South Kingstown residents need the vehicle, the title (or current registration if the title is being held by the lease or lien holder) and $10 cash or check (payable to the town of South Kingstown). These items can be brought to the South Kingstown Police Department during the following times:
Tuesday: 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm
Wednesday and Thursday: 10:00 am - 2:00 pm
Background Checks
Under state and/or federal law SKPD is required to do background checks for the following individuals:
- Employees of DCYF and Foster Parents (no fee)
- Child Care, Day Care, Nursery School, Preschool employees who live or work in South Kingstown (no fee)
- All SK School volunteers (no fee)
- Elderly Facility employees and volunteers (no fee)
- Domestic Violence volunteers (no fee), Mental Health Employees ($36)
- School Teachers who live in South Kingstown ($36)
- Non-teaching employees of SK School Department ($36)
- Adoptive Parents ($36)
- Alarm Businesses ($36)
South Kingstown Residents who have fingerprint cards supplied by their employer that only require prints taken (no background checks) will be accommodated during background check hours:
Monday and Friday: 8:00 am - Noon
Wednesday: 4:00 pm - 9:00 pm
Sunday: 8:00 am - 9:00 pm
