S.W.A.T.

The South Kingstown Police Department Emergency Services Unit was formed in 1988. It is comprised of members from both the police department and South Kingstown Emergency Medical Services. The team is specially trained in the use of special weapons, equipment and tactics for the purpose of handling high risk and tactical situations. Through grants from the Department of Homeland Security, the team has obtained a Weapons of Mass Destruction Response trailer with tow vehicle and a thermal imaging camera system.

The team consists of several components: Entry Team, Sniper/Observer Team, Hostage Crisis Negotiator Unit and Tactical Medics. The team is commanded by Lt Gerald Richard.
