Park Project Update |
Tri-Pond Park
Opening Spring, 2004! |
The South Kingstown Parks and Recreation Department has spearheaded the development of the Tri-Pond Park Nature Center. The nature center, which features a large classroom, dioramas, equipment storage, and office space, will house our environmental education programs. In addition, we will encourage local school departments, boys and girls scouts, and environmental groups to use the nature center and park.
The 750 square foot, log cabin structure is located adjacent to Asa Pond within Tri-Pond Park. The park features three ponds, streams, forest areas, wild plants, a variety of wildlife, and approximately two miles of nature trails. The park is also adjacent to the South County Bike Path.
We are very grateful for the significant community, foundation, and state support for the project. The Champlin Foundation and the Department of Environmental Management contributed $75,000 each. The Wakefield Rotary Club contributed $28,000 and have committed to installing the landscaping. Finally, the Environmental Protection Agency's Wastewater Demonstration Project Grant Program provided funding for the ISDS system.
J.A. Greifendorf Design is serving as the project architect and South County Post and Beam is the general contractor.
