Parks and Recreation Department |
| Department Overview |
The Parks and Recreation Department was created in 1939 to provide high quality parks and recreation services for the citizens of South Kingstown. Our department is governed by the South Kingstown Recreation Commission, a five-member policy board, which is responsible for overseeing the operation of the department.
The department employs an administrative staff of sixteen full-time employees and over two hundred part-time and seasonal employees. The daily administration of the department is under the direction of the Director of Parks and Recreation.
The Parks and Recreation Department annual operations budget is approximately $1.9 million. Approximately 60% of the operations budget is generated by fees and charges, facility management, and Neighborhood Guild trust funds. The remainder of the operations budget is supported by local tax support.
