Background (BCI) / Criminal Record Check & Fingerprinting Guidelines
Under state and federal laws the South Kingstown Police Department is required to perform Background (BCI) / Criminal Record Checks as well as fingerprinting for South Kingstown residents seeking employment, licensing or a position with varying businesses and agencies throughout the state of Rhode Island. The following are guidelines to obtain the BCI / record check and/or fingerprints at the appropriate law enforcement agency.
Fingerprinting
Only South Kingstown residents can be fingerprinted at the South Kingstown Police Department. Any applicable fees are highlighted in green. Checks and Money Orders should be written to "Town of South Kingstown."
South Kingstown residents who have fingerprint cards supplied by their employer that only require prints taken (no background check) will be accommodated during background check hours. There is no fee for this.
Preventing Delays
There are unpredictable circumstances that may delay the actual process of fingerprinting once at the police department. Please call ahead to ensure officers are available. Call 401-783-3321, dial "0" for dispatch. Fingerprint processing is available seven (7) days a week from 8am to 8pm.
To expedite the process, print and complete the SKPD Form 207 - Background Check Form (see link to the right). Submit this form with 2 forms of IDs (One ID must be a photo ID) to the dispatcher at the South Kingstown Police Department.
